ABC Wedding Planner Produces a Magical Event
If you were anywhere near Shelter Island on the evening of April 26, 2011 and heard loud thunder, you weren’t hearing things. What you were hearing was the sound of The San Diego Women’s Drum Circle playing their hearts out for one of their own. Though it wasn’t a wedding, the evening was a Celebration of Life produced by our longest attending association member Geneene Thornton, Owner of Waterfront Weddings and Celebrations EVENT Planning.
The event originated as a benefit event for Peggi Walker owner of Metro Floral/Peggi Walker Designs who had been stricken with stage 4 cancer over a year ago but unfortunately passed away 4 days before the event.
As Geneene and Peggi decided long before the event, No matter what happens, “The Show Must Go On” And did it ever! With over 200 people in attendance, The Drum Circle played for at least 20 minutes with Peggi’s Drum in the center of the dance floor, Live and Silent Auctions followed, and then  the “Sensation Show Band”, led by Kimmy Terrell and her husband GT, opened the dance floor with the “Age of Aquarius”.  Magically, at least 100 people circled the dance floor and began to sing along with the band. They could be heard all the way to downtown San Diego. Peggi’s 4 sisters came from out of state, her 3 daughters and her son from Miami, were there and all of her friends and colleagues came in droves to celebrate Peggi and what she meant to them. Someone was heard to say “I just wish Peggi could be here” Geneene gently leaned over and said, “SHE IS, SHE’S HERE, EVERYWHERE WITH US’! Huge Thanks go to all of the people that donated their time, services and talents to make this an evening that no one will soon forget. It was truly a “Magical Evening” AND a SPECIAL HUGE THANKS goes to Larry Bowman, owner of The Bali Hai Restaurant for is gracious donation of his new Patio Pavilion overlooking beautiful San Diego.
